GOH Kiat Chun (Wu Chun) scored 21 points for Fitness Zone but it wasn't enough as his team fell to Roosters in their Bukit Ladang Basketball Championship 2012 match last night.
Roosters, comprising players on the national squad, continued to stamp their mark as tournament favourites by defeating the hosts 85-75 at the Fitness Zone Basketball court in Kiulap, despite both teams already booking their berths in the semi-finals.
Lim Liang Wei recorded a game-high 25 points and 15 rebounds for the Roosters. Benjamin Norman Sim and Cavan Kong also scored into double figures with 22 points and 13 points respectively.
It was an evenly contested game with Fitness Zone getting off to a quick start. Ho Hee Lee got to work early to give the hosts a 16-14 lead heading into the second quarter.
The second period saw the Roosters pick up their offensive effort. Lim did most of the damage, putting his team in front 44-35 by the end of the first half.
The Roosters would come into the third quarter determined to shut down their opponents.
Their suffocating defence put constant pressure on the Fitness Zone ball handlers which resulted in turnovers, helping them maintain a 73-63 lead going into the final period.
The fourth quarter saw Goh step up his game to score 14 fourth quarter points.
But the Roosters continued to execute on both ends of the floor to hold on to the victory.
The second game saw Dagger edge out Chevrolet 55-54 in a battle of pride with both teams having failed to qualify for the semis.
The Roosters will face Aewon with Fitness Zone lacing up against Mochi in the semi-finals.
